Problem:
I need to print somewhere other than the default printer.
Probable Cause:
Previously on the MD system, Word users only had the option to print to the ‘Default’ printer.
Solution:
On the MD system, you now have the option to choose printers other than the ‘Default’.
1. | From the print option dropdown menu, follow the arrow right to find – ‘Scan for other printers.’ This is not done automatically because typically it will not be allowed by their IE permissions and results in a pop-up. Upon selecting the ‘Scan for other printers’ link, one of three things may happen: |
Result 1 – The dropdown will be populated by other printer options.
Result 2 – A popup will appear indicating an ActiveX control that may be unsafe. This is not of concern. If user wishes to use an alternative printer, ‘yes’ should be clicked to bypass the popup. It is not advisable to change permissions to eliminate this ActiveX warning.
Result 3 – An error message will appear indicating that the scan was not successful.
If Result 3 occurs, your security permissions are too strict to allow the scan and the option should not be pursued if possible. If necessary, you may be able to add Scribe to your trusted sites to avoid Result 3, although the trusted sites permission may also be too restrictive to allow the function.
Resolution:
You should be able to select alternate printers through the print option dropdown menu.
