Track Changes

Problem

There are colored words, dotted underlining and colored comments in the right margin of my document.

How do I turn off the “Track Changes” function in Word?

Probable Cause

MS Word offers users an option to track changes to a document in color with comments, highlighting and underlining that appear on the document.

Solution:  (From MS Word knowledge base online)

Note: Turning off change tracking does not remove changes that have already been tracked.  Instead, turning off chance tracking enables you to modify the document without marking what has changed.  To remove tracked changes, use commands on the Reviewing toolbar to review and accept or reject the changes.

1.On the Tools menu, click Track Changes.
2.When the Track Changes feature is enabled, TRK appears on the statusbar  (status bar: A horizontal bar at the bottom of the screen that displays information about the current condition of the program, such as the status of items in the window, the progress of the current task, or information about the selected item.). When you turn off change tracking, TRK is dimmed.
3.You can also double-click TRK on the status bar to turn change tracking on or off.

Resolution

You should now be able to modify a document without marking the changes
